Benefits At A Glance Flyer 2024-2025

Insurance

Our state insurance benefits are provided by the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS). ACC covers 100% of the cost for full-time, benefits-eligible employees for the following:

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Long-term disability
  • Life insurance at 2x annual base salary

Optional benefits available include vision, dependent life, short-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, and life insurance up to 4x annual base salary.

Part-time employees working 30 hours per week for 4.5 months are offered medical insurance at no cost. Part-time employees working 20-29 hours per week for 4.5 months are offered medical coverage at a cost of 50% of the premiums.

Retirement

ACC does not participate in the Social Security System. All employees are required to participate in a qualified retirement plan in lieu of the Social Security System. Any employee hired after April 1986 is also required to contribute 1.45 percent monthly in the Medicare portion of the Social Security System.

Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS)

The TRS retirement plan is a defined benefit plan. This means that the amount of your retirement benefit is determined using a formula established by Texas law and not on how much you have contributed to TRS. Once you begin service retirement under the rules of the plan, you are eligible to receive a monthly benefit for life.

Optional Retirement Program (ORP)

The Optional Retirement Program (ORP) is a defined contribution plan available only to certain eligible positions. ORP-eligible employees may elect to participate in the ORP as an alternative to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS).

Optional Tax Deferred Annuity Program (TDA)

In addition to TRS or ORP, all full-time and part-time employees are eligible to participate in the Optional Tax Deferred Annuity Program, known as ‘TDAs’ or ‘voluntary retirement accounts.’ 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity Plans and/or 457 Deferred Compensation Plans are available.
